For his recent work in Rocketry, Madhavan recently earned glowing praises. He played aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan in The Biggie, his first film as a filmmaker. Simran, Ron Donachie, and Misha Goshal were among the cast members. The Tamil and Hindi versions both included cameos from Suriya and Shah Rukh Khan, respectively. Bollywood is thought to be going through a challenging time. Laal Singh Chaddha and Shamshera, two high-profile films, failed at the box office, shocking the industry.

At a recent press conference, Madhavan was questioned about the disparity between the box office success of his film Rocketry The Nambi Effect and that of his 3 Idiots co-stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's most recent movie, Laal Singh Chaddha. He responded that although Laal Singh Chaddha was the result of intense planning and labor, the public has now been exposed to "global cinema" and considers it as a standard for evaluation.

The 52-year-old actor-director expressed, “If we knew (why Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t work), we would all be making hit films, honestly. Nobody starts making a film thinking that they’re making the wrong film. The intent and the hard work behind it are just as intense as it is with every film that an actor works on. So, all the big films that have been released, their intent was to make a good film and make it work. I think the difference with my film was that I made a biopic so it is not time agnostic, it would have worked in any time, irrespective of whether it was pre-Covid or post-Covid or anything.”

He added, “So they’re going to judge you with that sort of a yardstick. So, it is nobody’s fault, I think it is going to take us a little time to pull up our socks and make a screenplay that works very well in theatres.”

Meanwhile, Madhavan will next be seen in the thriller Dhokha: Round D Corner, directed by Kookie Gulati. The film's cast includes Aparshakti Khurana, Darshan Kumaar, and Khushalii Kumar.
