Despite initial positive feedback, Rahman's version received criticism from netizens. In response, the makers, Roy Kapur Films, issued an apology on Instagram, asserting that they had obtained the necessary adaptation rights for the late Mr. Kazi Nazrul Islam's work.
They clarified that the rendition was a sincere artistic interpretation, created in adherence to the license agreement with the late Mrs. Kalyani Kazi and witnessed by Mr. Anirban Kazi. The statement emphasized the intention to pay homage to the song's cultural significance while staying within the agreed-upon terms, allowing them to use the lyrics with a new composition.
Acknowledging the subjective nature of art, the makers expressed sincere apologies if their interpretation had caused distress or hurt sentiments, recognizing the emotional attachment audiences may have to the original composition.
