Amitabh Bachchan, who had previously performed several action sequences, refused to use a body double when he was recently given the opportunity to perform a stunt. A stuntman was paid to perform an action scene for the senior actor in a tv commercial shoot, but he refused, stating that he would perform his own stunts.
Amitabh, who turns 80 this year, amazed the team of the TV commercial and its filmmaker, Amit Sharma, by declaring at the last moment that he would perform the stunts himself.
Manohar Verma, the action director who scripted the action scene, told ETimes, “ We were prepared with a body double but when Mr. Bachchan came on set he told the director that he would prefer to perform his own stunts. We had to take a lot of precautions, too.”
Amitabh had to smash three hardened glass panes one after the other for the stunt, and Manohar recounted that the actor did that in almost one take for each of them. He said, “Mr. Bachchan aced it like a pro and he clearly symbolizes the fact that age is just a number. Those who were present on set were reminded of the angry young man of Deewaar and Zanjeer.”
Last month, Amitabh shared a sneak peek of the tv commercial shoot on his Instagram and Tumblr blogs. He captioned a photo of himself smashing a glass pane, "After 53 years and age 80... there are some things that never change... Action."
