Odisha Exempts The Kapil Sharma-Starring Film 'Zwigato' From Amusement Tax

The state of Odisha declared an exemption from entertainment tax for the movie shot in Bhubaneswar, "Zwigato."

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave his approval to the plan to exempt the movie from the entertainment tax.

As per an official statement from the CMO, "State government is promoting Odisha as a destination for film shooting through proactive policies. This will promote tourism potential and provide employment opportunities for our talented youth."

"The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of film director Nandita Das for promoting Odisha as a destination for shooting commercial movies," the statement stated.

In addition, CM Naveen Patnaik saw a private screening of the film at his house with Nandita Das in attendance.

"The Chief Minister praised the movie as it successfully presents the struggling life of common men in the cities. He also appreciated the artistic portrayal in the movie. The movie will succeed in giving a positive message for social change and human values, he hoped," added the statement.

Kapil Sharma plays the lead role in the Nandita Das-directed film, which is distributed by Applause Entertainment. The former floor manager (Kapil) of a factory loses his employment due to the pandemic, which is the subject of the movie. He then struggles with the world of ratings and rewards while working as a food delivery rider.His stay-at-home wife starts looking into various employment options to support the family's income, both terrified and thrilled about her newfound independence.

The movie is about how life is relentless, but there are also shared joyful times. It depicts the everyday lives of 'ordinary' but invisible individuals.

Although 'Zwigato' has gotten favorable reviews from critics, its box office performance is not particularly impressive.
