In the wake of the brutal rape of a woman in suburban Sakinaka last week, Mumbai Police came up with an initiative to ensure women’s safety called Nirbhaya Squad, which is a special squad consisting of women officials that will be set up at every police station and patrolling will be increased in areas where occurrence of crime against women is more likely to take place.
Many celebrities including Shahid Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Salman Khan, and Vicky Kaushal took to their respective social media handles and applauded this initiative of Mumbai Police towards women.
Shahid Kapoor tweeted, “Kudos to the Mumbai Police force for implementing a dedicated safety cell called 'Nirbhaya Squad'. Created for women's safety and to prevent women related crimes, this squad will be set up in every police station across the city and one can reach out on their helpline number 103 in times of crisis. This is a great initiative and hope it helps curb harassment against women.”
