If someone claims that Bollywood doesn't have a drug problem and you hear rumours that are either untrue or overblown, your inner, quiet rational voice ought to start laughing. The drug problem in the film industry is undeniable. Many stars, both male and female, have acknowledged having a drug issue at some point in their lives, ranging from Ranbir Kapoor to Sanjay Dutt.

Fardeen Khan

Fardeen, the son of renowned actor Feroz Khan, had a brief Bollywood career. The Mumbai Police detained him on May 5, 2001, along with cocaine. In the same year, he had to go through a detoxification programme to kick the habit. Fardeen stated in a 2012 interview with Times of India, “Any mind-altering substance, whether it’s narcotics or alcohol or prescription pills, creates a lethal dependency. Before you know it, you’re sucked into a downward spiral.” He was given bail with immunity from drug possession charges after the narcotics department waited ten years to charge him in the case.

Sanjay Dutt

Son of renowned actor Sunil Dutt, Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned for five months in 1982 after being charged with drug use. Dutt's name came up in a number of prominent cases, including the 1993 Mumbai serial explosion. Dutt went into great depth about his drug issues in an interview with India Today. He referred to his drug use time as the nine worst years of his life. Dutt spent time in a rehab facility in the US to overcome his drug abuse. Dutt once remarked, “from cocaine to heroine, if there is a drug, I have done it.”

When Ranbir Kapoor played Dutt in his biopic, his drug addiction may have been one of the most widely publicised since it was even depicted on film. He once admitted that when using heroin, he dozed off for two days straight. After two days, he woke up starving and was told that he had just fallen asleep. At that point, he made the decision to seek drug addiction treatment from his father, Congressman Sunil Dutt.

Mamta Kulkarni

Mamta Kulkarni was one of the early B-town crushes for a lot of teenagers in the 1990s. The actress, though, was involved in her fair share of drug-related crimes. In 2014, she was detained in Kenya for allegedly trafficking drugs. Along with her husband Vicky Goswami and another Indian citizen, Kulam Hussein, she was detained by Kenyan police. In the 2000s, Kulkarni quit acting in Bollywood and is said to have wed Goswami, a notorious worldwide drug lord. Goswami moved to Kenya to build a real estate firm after serving ten years in a Dubai prison on narcotics possession charges.

Yo Yo Honey Singh

The rapper-turned-star vocalist, who is well-known for his raps and Punjabi music, has a lengthy history of alcohol misuse. In a 2016 interview, Honey Singh discussed his addiction issues, which caused him to take an 18-month break from the music business. There were rumours that he was being treated for his drug addiction when he vanished mysteriously. He disputed these accusations in an interview with Times of India, but he acknowledged that he was receiving alcohol misuse therapy. He acknowledged that his mental and physical health had been negatively impacted by his alcoholism, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses. He said, “I must confess that I was bipolar and an alcoholic, which aggravated the condition.”

Geetanjali Nagpal

Those who keep up with the fashion world must be familiar with Geetanjali Nagpal. Nagpal was a popular model who shared the runway with Sushmita Sen and other well-known faces, but things took a turn for the worst when she developed a drug addiction. A photojournalist spotted her beggaring on Delhi's streets in September 2007. Although no one was aware of the circumstances that led the ex-Navy officer's daughter to live on the streets, it was later established that she had been seeing a British citizen prior to being found there.

Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan, the wife of Shah Rukh Khan, one of the most popular performers in Indian cinema, was not a name anyone would have connected with drug misuse. She allegedly had a little amount of marijuana in her possession when she was detained at Berlin Airport. Her name was never made public by airport authorities in Berlin or India because the quantity was simply enough for her own use. The only information released was that an actor's wife had been detained in Berlin.

Sussane Khan

Sussanne Khan, a well-known interior designer and the ex-wife of actor Hrithik Roshan, ended their relationship amicably. However, it has been rumoured that one of the main causes of their divorce was her drug issue. When her father, seasoned actor Sanjay Khan, was asked about her daughter's divorce in an interview, he remained nothing. He did, however, discuss the institution of marriage. He stated: “Do not be distracted… see the value of a home life, see the value of a good family, don’t think frivolously and while under the influence of alcohol or drugs”. It was said that he was implying her daughter's drug use, which contributed to the divorce. Fardeen Khan's cousin is Sussanne Khan.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor, the son of seasoned actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, has a long history of involvement in the movie business. However, Kapoor has also a history of drug misuse. He acknowledged using narcotics while in college in one of his interviews with Deccan Chronicle. He stated: “I have tried drugs when I was in film school and got into bad influence. But I realised that nothing will happen in life if I continue with drugs. When we did that section, I did a lot of research.” Despite not having used hard drugs since graduating from college, he is addicted to nicotine, which he considers to be worse than narcotics. In his biopic Sanju, in which Ranbir portrayed Sanjay Dutt, drug use was criticised for being glorified. He portrayed a singer who used drugs on a regular basis in the film Rockstar.

Kangana Ranaut

It is nothing new for Kangana Ranaut to be linked to controversies. She asserted a few days ago that drug addicts make up 90% of the Bollywood industry. She was, however, the subject of prior drug addiction charges. She acknowledged to having used drugs in the past in a video that she published to IGTV in March. Following Ranaut's recent charges regarding Bollywood's drug addiction, her ex-boyfriend Adhyayan Suman also claimed in an interview that she was an addict.

Vijay Raaz

Vijay Raaz, who is well-known for his comedic parts, was detained by Abu Dhabi authorities in 2005 for narcotics possession along with DJ Aqeel. Raaz was imprisoned for a week before being let out. Vijay asserted his innocence and that he couldn't understand what the airport staff were saying to him in Arabic. He claimed he had no illegal drugs on him.

Parveen Babi

Parveen’s life and career, which were once renowned for their unrivalled beauty and acting prowess, took a depressing turn after she was given a paranoid schizophrenia diagnosis. She began to have doubts about his coworkers as a result of Parveen Babi's reported drug and alcohol abuse. She allegedly asserted at one point that she had evidence of Sanjay Dutt's participation in the 1993 Mumbai bombing case. She had a romantic relationship with director Mahesh Bhatt as well.

Manisha Koirala

There are rumours that she struggled with drug addiction when her career was at its height. She is better renowned for her acting abilities and for having survived cancer.Her addiction is said to have contributed to her cancer.Though Manisha never acknowledged her addiction issues, rumours indicate that they had a negative impact on both her personal and professional lives.
