One of post-independent India's iconic personalities, Mangeshkar is not only remembered for her melodious voice but also for her compassion and benevolent nature.

“It is such a joy to have one’s family with you in old age. But what about those who are old and alone in their last years? My heart reaches out to the senior actors of our film industry who have died alone. Maine suna hai Lalita Pawar ji aur Achla Sachdev ji, jo kitne mahaan kalaakar the, unke saath koi bhi nahin tha (I’ve heard that two great actresses Lalita Pawar and Achala Sachdev died alone. There was no one besides them) Kitne sharm aur dukh ki baat hai (how shameful and sad this is),” the multiple award-winning singer had told a leading publication.
