Celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar has expressed his disappointment over younger Bollywood stars quoting high fees despite not proving their mettle at the box office. Johar, who has delivered several blockbusters and launched a number of newcomers under Dharma Productions, was in conversation with renowned journalist Anupama Chopra.
Talking to Chopra, the filmmaker opened up about pay disparity in the Hindi film industry and said, “There is a younger order that is yet to prove their muscle at the box office. They are asking for ₹20 or ₹30 crores for no reason. Then you want to show a report card to them and say, 'Hello, this is what your film opened to.'”
He went on to add, “I would rather pay top dollar to members of the technical crew, who actually make the film special.”
Meanwhile, Karan Johar is presently busy with his next directorial offering after seven long years, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film features an ensemble cast, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi. It is scheduled to enter theaters on February 10, 2023, coinciding its release with Valentine's Day weekend next year.
He is also bankrolling several high-profile films under Dharma Productions. Some of them include Liger, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Brahmastra, Govinda Naam Mera, Dostana 2, Yodha, Dono Mile Iss Tarah, and Gehraiyaan.
