Kalki Koechlin has proven her mettle in movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Margarita with a Straw, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and many others. In a recent interview, the actress discussed being stereotyped in the profession due to her skin tone.

The discrimination based on an actor's complexion is still present in the film industry, Kalki remarked, despite claims that it is a significant era for actors of all ages. 'I think you will perfectly nail this character since you play a maniac in it,' a director once told me. People seem to view me that way, which significantly irritates me.

She said that I can only portray these upper-class roles because of my skin color.

Kalki is also conscious that she is not the only victim of this behavior.

She claimed that many actors with drab skin also tend to be typecast in maid roles. She believes everyone is being pushed into boxes and is waiting for the right acting job to present itself so she can be challenged.

Koechlin, raised primarily in Auroville and born in Pondicherry to French parents, will shortly be featured in Pushan Kripalani's Goldfish, which will have its world premiere at the 27th Busan International Film Festival. Koechlin studied drama and theatre at the Goldsmiths University of London.

The National Award-winning actor believes that while OTT has created many jobs and provided an opportunity for talent to emerge, high-quality content is still challenging to find in both film and OTT. If I have anything to complain about, it's that there is too much material to read, and since I always insist on reading the whole thing rather than just a summary, it may be tiresome when the material is subpar, she said.
