Toplined by Ranveer Singh, who delivered a top-notch performance as cricket legend Kapil Dev, 83 was one of the hotly anticipated films of 2021. The film had started creating buzz even before its official announcement. The various posters followed by the teaser and the nail-biting trailer took the audience's excitement to another level.
But unfortunately, when the film finally found its way into cinemas, the sudden spike in coronavirus cases in India and around the world played a spoilsport and a large section of the society that had been waiting for its release with bated breath did not go to theatres prioritising their health over entertainment.
Shutting down of theatres in Delhi and several other states proved to be another nail in the coffin for the film. Now filmmaker Kabir Khan has opened up about the possibility of taking 83 to a streaming platform.
“We don’t know if we will have to shut down tomorrow, or will be afforded another five to six days. If further restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on the web, soon,” he told a publication during an interview. “But I am keen that people take precaution and go to the theatres to watch it,” he added.
83 is jointly produced by Reliance Entertainment, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Phantom Films, KA Productions, and Kabir Khan Films.
