Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ is witnessing record-breaking advance ticket sales. The Atlee directorial is scheduled to arrive in cinema halls on September 7, but it has already done a business of almost Rs 17 crore, selling over five lakh tickets across the country. Now, with advance booking opening for more theatres on Monday, this number is expected to grow manifold.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, a total of 5,77,255 tickets have been sold for ‘Jawan’. In the Hindi market, 5,29,568 tickets have been sold in the 2D format and 11,558 have paid for the IMAX tickets. The Tamil and Telugu markets have sold 19,899 and 16,230 tickets respectively. This has brought the total earnings of the film to Rs 16.93 crore.
According to Manobala Vijayabalan, an expert for the film industry, the national multiplexes are where ‘Jawan’ does the majority of its business. INOX sold 75,661 tickets, INOX sold 40,577 tickets, while PVR reported selling 1,12,299 seats. Hyderabad residents are the most eager to see Shah Rukh in action, as the city has sold the most tickets (58,898). Next with 40,035 seats is Kolkata. There is also a significant amount of interest in Jawan in the other major metropolises of Bengaluru (39,325), Mumbai (39,600), and Delhi-NCR (39,535).
Film trade expert Taran Adarsh stated that ‘Jawan’ is receiving a "phenomenal" response from not only national but also non-national chains and lone screens, resulting in early morning showings even in Tier 2 cities.
On Sunday, Shah Rukh spoke with his followers on social media and expressed his joy at the record-breaking advance ticket sales. The actor responded, "Very happy that all of you want to see films in theatres as a community," when asked how he felt about it. “Insha Allah, everyone can experience #Jawan on a wide screen.”
He also added, “I feel blessed by the love of so many people! My family and me are eternally grateful to all for this immense love. #Jawan.”
Another person who questioned the accuracy of the 'Jawan' advance box office figures received a response from him. “Jawan ka kitna booking cooperate hai aur kitna real (how much of the Jawan advance booking numbers is real and how much is fake)? #AskSRK,” the person wrote. Shah Rukh responded, “Yeh social media waali ghatia baatein mat karo yaar (don’t talk rubbish). Have positive thoughts and good feelings for all. Better for life.”
Shah Rukh will likely play both a father and a son in 'Jawan'. He and Atlee,who is known for Tamil hits like ‘Theri,’ ‘Mersal’, and ‘Bigil,’ work together for the first time on this movie. Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, and Sunil Grover are among the ensemble cast members in the movie.
