Saif Ali Khan is one of the most versatile, suave, and dashing actors we have in Bollywood. His good looks and charisma have only gotten better with age. Like his loving wife Kareena Kapoor Khan once remarked, Saif has aged like a wine – he is only getting better with every passing day.
Age has not diminished, but rather added to Saif's Nawabi charm. While the actor has played diverse roles in his career that spans more than twenty years, there is one film where he played a character that had to cross-dress. And that movie is Sajid Khan's 2014 film Humshakals.
In the comedy flick, Saif played three different characters and for one of the parts, he had to cross-dress as a woman.
Reminiscing about the role in an interview with Instagram influencer Kusha Kapila, Saifu said, “Oh my god. Oh my god, Sajid (Khan), what did he do to us?”
Saif later imitated the running style of his cross-dressed character from Humshakals and remarked, “What is this running? It is hideously embarrassing”.
He further added, “I remember we were discussing bust size and Ritesh said… I think he called me a tart and he said, ‘I’m not like you. I’m much more classy. I have nice little pert.’ He said ‘You’re just like a voluptuous…’”
Directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Humshakals featured Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu in the lead roles with Satish Shah, Nawab Shah, Chunky Pandey and Darshan Jariwala playing supporting characters.
Despite poor critical reception, the film did well at the box office during the first few days after release. It recovered its investment although it was still deemed a box office failure.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Saif Ali Khan has completed filming for the 3D bilingual film Adipurush, a retelling of the Hindu epic Ramayana, in which he will portray the demon Ravana alongside Prabhas and Kriti Sanon. He is also collaborating with Hrithik Roshan for the Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha (2017).
