The demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday, 6 February, sent a shockwave across India and in several other parts of the world. Her diehard fans are yet to come to terms with the fact that the mellifluous voice that mesmerised them for decades is no more now.
It has been approximately 24 hours since the news of Mangeshkar’s passing away came out but India continues to mourn her death. While everybody knew how the music doyen passed away, details of her death were not out in the media.
However, it can now be confirmed that she died due to a septic shock with multiple-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Mangeshkar, who was 92-year-old, was battling COVID-19 related complications for the past 29 days. She was admitted to the hospital on January 9, two days after she tested positive for the coronavirus.
N Santhanam, CEO of Breach Candy Hospital, said that Dr Pratit Samdani and a team of three resident doctors were looking after her health constantly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the funeral in Shivaji Park, personally thanked the team of doctors from Breach Candy who were treating the singer.
