Gauahar Khan made her debut in Bollywood with the film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Since then, she has been featured in many films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Begum Jaan, and many more. The actress recently revealed that she lost her biggest project because she was too good-looking for it. She claimed that Danny Boyle put her through several rounds of auditions for his 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire, which took home eight honors at the 81st Academy Awards, including best picture.

Gauahar shared her experience with director Danny, describing how he was unable to put her in a slum due to her face. She revealed, "One of the biggest projects I lost in my life was because I was too good looking for it, and it was Slumdog millionaire. I have met Danny Boyle, and I have done five rounds of auditions for it. After the fifth round, he said ‘you’re a fantastic actor, are you sure you’re trained in India?’ At that time, I had hardly any experience, and I said ‘I’ve trained in India’. He said, ‘you speak like an actor who is from out of India, not from India, so how do you have this experience?’ I said ‘sir I don’t know, I just try and do it every single day. He said ‘you are such a fab actor but somehow, I won’t be able to cast you here because I have to match three age groups and I can’t place you in a Slumdog Millionaire with your face.”

Additionally, Gauahar discussed her work on Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. She revealed how the team and film's director Shimit Amin had to make sure she wore more "jarring" make-up to fit the character. She claimed that her character had to be "not good-looking."

Gauahar last appeared in the web series called Bestseller which is available on Amazon Prime Video. Earlier in an interview, the actress had claimed that she has many more projects lined up which also include another web series. The Begum Jaan actress got married to the son of music director Ismail Darbar, Zaid Darbar in 2020.
