The Mumbai Police have reportedly charged a former driver for singer Sonu Nigam's father with stealing Rs 72 lakh from his Oshiwara home.

The claimed theft occurred between March 19 and 20, according to the police, at the Windsor Grand building in Oshiwara, where the singer's father Agamkumar Nigam resides.

The singer's sister went to the Oshiwara police on Wednesday after the event. Nikita's report led to the registration of a FIR under sections 380, 454 and 457 of the Indian Penal Code for theft and trespassing for housebreaking.

According to the complaint, Agamkumar worked as a driver for Rehan for almost eight months before firing him lately due to dissatisfaction with his performance, an officer said.

The 72-year-old spent Sunday afternoon having supper at his daughter's house in Versova before heading back to his Oshiwara home.

“In the evening, he called his daughter to say that Rs 40 lakh was missing from a digital locker kept in a wooden cupboard. The next day, Agamkumar went to his son’s residence at Seven Bungalows for some visa-related work. When he returned home, he found that another Rs 32 lakh was missing from the locker,” an officer said.

“While checking the the CCTV camera footage of the society, Agamkumar and Nikita saw Rehan going towards his flat with a bag on both days when he was away,” the officer added.

Rehan, whom Agamkumar suspects, allegedly took Rs 72 lakhs from the digital locker in the bedroom after breaking into his apartment using a duplicate key, according to the police.
