Kabir Khan recalled how Nawazuddin's audition had a significant influence on him and convinced him to put him in the movie. He said that when Nawazuddin's audition tape was handed to him by his assistant at the time, Ali Abbas Zafar, Kabir was inspired to do whatever it took to get him on board.
The day of filming for Nawazuddin's segment in 'New York' finally arrived, and it was an amazing experience. The team was moved to tears by Nawazuddin's immaculate performance of the moment, which was performed for almost 3 to 4 minutes without any cuts. Kabir Khan was so moved by the performance that he decided against doing another take because the crew's genuine reactions including tears and applause had persuaded him that this was the ideal angle.
The veteran actor Irrfan Khan arrived on set 30 minutes later, and a really emotional occurrence ensued. Irrfan was shown the Nawazuddin-starring sequence by Kabir Khan, and the impact was profound.
