Pratik Gandhi gained prominence after starring in Hansal Mehta's historical web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020) as Harshad Mehta. Following the success of Scam 1992, the actor was approached by Hindi filmmakers for a number of film projects.
However, Gandhi recently revealed that Bollywood filmmakers were initially afraid to cast him in major roles. In films such as 68 Pages (2007), LoveYatri (2018), and Mitron (2018), the actor played a bunch of supporting roles (2018). Scam 1992, on the other hand, was the film that made directors take him seriously.
In an interview, the actor, who began his career with theatre and Gujarati films, said, “My work received a lot of appreciation in the Gujarati film industry but when it came to working in Hindi cinema, I could see that filmmakers were hesitant to cast me in lead roles. People did approach me but for supporting characters. Producers and directors here thought that yes, I was a good actor, but not a saleable face in Bollywood.’’
Pratik, when asked about his upcoming projects, replied, “Today, when I look at the projects lined up, I don’t feel nervous or pressurised. I am only excited.’’
Pratik has a number of projects in the works, including Ananth Narayan Mahadevan's Phule, Atithi Bhooto Bhava, Dedh Bigha Zameen, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan, and a rom-com drama starring Vidya Balan.
