Alia Bhatt is presently busy promoting her much-anticipated film Gangubai Kathiawadi. Ahead of its theatrical release on February 25, the period drama had its grand premiere at the prestigious 72nd Berlin International Film Festival on February 16.
Bhatt attended the event along with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was her third appearance at the Berlin Film Festival as her films Gully Boy (2019) and Highway (2014) had previously premiered at the festival.
But do you know that the city of Berlin holds a special place in Bhatt’s heart. Before jetting off to Berlin in 2014 for the premiere of Highway, the actress had revealed that her grandparents hailed from Germany. She also added that her grandmother was a German and her maternal great grandfather used to run an underground newspaper against the dictator, Adolf Hitler. He was caught by the authorities and imprisoned for two years. Her maternal grandmother then escaped to Czechoslovakia and later to England.
In another interview, the Student of the Year (2012) also said that her grandparents lived in Berlin as well and when her grandmother came to know about Highway premiering in Beline, she had tears in her eyes.
