Neeraj Ghaywan's Masaan (2015), which marked the Bollywood debut of Vicky Kaushal, is considered one of the pathbreaking films ever made in the Hindi film industry. The hard-hitting realistic movie released on 24 July 2015 and has completed seven years of its release on Sunday.

Expressing gratitude over the same, Vicky Kaushal remembered his debut film with a sense of nostalgia. Sharing a post on Instagram, Kaushal shared some stills from the movie.

"7 saal ho gaye! Dil se shukriya.#Masaan (It's been 7 years. A heartfelt gratitude #Masaan)," Vicky captioned the post.

Vicky's co-star in the film Shweta Tripathi, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and also Neeraj Ghaywan took the comment section of the post and poured love and appreciation over the actor for a fine performance in his onscreen debut.

Masaan, which also marked the directorial debut of Neeraj Ghaywan, was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival winning two awards. It was screened at the inaugural New York Dalit Film and Cultural Festival in 2019 along with Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Kaala (2018) and Fandry (2013). Since its release in 2015, the film has gone on to achieve cult status.

Also starring Richa Chaddha, the film deals with the issues of a casteist society and shows the tragic love story between a lower caste boy and an upper caste girl and the story of a girl and the trauma she faces while trying to explore pre-marital sexual relations.

Shot extensively in Varanasi and Allahabad, Masaan is an Indo-French co-production produced by Drishyam Films, Macassar Productions, Phantom Films, Sikhya Entertainment, Arte France Cinema and Pathé Productions.
