In an old interview with Bollywood Hungama, actor Shah Rukh Khan said he first thought it was "too late" for him to get into films. When the conversation took place in 1991, Shah Rukh was 24 years old and well-known for his successful work on television. It showed how he felt about becoming a movie actor.

Shah Rukh Khan said that he didn't really want to be an actor, even though he was in films like ‘Chamatkar’ (then called ‘Ghost Mera Dost’), ‘Dil Aashna Hai’, and ‘King Uncle’. Surprisingly, he hadn't signed on for his first movie, ‘Deewana’, which came out in 1992. In the conversation, Shah Rukh said that his mother, Lateef Fatima Khan, who had died earlier that year, was the reason he wanted to get into films.

Shah Rukh Khan said, "Films have never interested me. In fact, I've felt pretty sick whenever I've heard about how the movie business works. I didn't want to be a part of it at all. But I changed my mind when my mother died early this year. I really cared about her, and she always wanted to see me on the big screen someday. Even though it might be too late now, I'll still do it for her."

The star also said that he wanted to move out of Delhi because his mother's death made it hard for him to stay in their family home. Shah Rukh said that everything in their Delhi house reminded him of her, and he wanted to start over by focusing on work in Bombay, which is now called Mumbai.

During the conversation, Shah Rukh Khan showed his funny side and talked about how he learned to act in an unusual way. He said that he had learned how to act by watching bad artists and seeing how they did things wrong. He said, in a jokey way, that he would never think about taking acting lessons from famous teachers like Asha Chandra or Roshan Taneja. Shah Rukh even made a joke about how he might be able to teach them a few things about acting. He says that acting is either something you are born with or you are not. Practise and learning from your mistakes can help you get better, though.
