Given their mutual connections in the industry, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who were formerly romantically involved, have now grown close friends and frequently discuss projects and roles. But there was a moment when Ranbir voiced doubts about Deepika's choice to star in 'Cocktail,' which ultimately proved to be a crucial career turning point for her.

For Deepika Padukone's filmography, 'Cocktail' represented a turning point in which she played the part of Veronica, a part that had a long-lasting effect on admirers. It's interesting to note that before Deepika signed on for the project, her friend and co-star Ranbir Kapoor urged her against taking on a project like 'Cocktail.' Ranbir had little prior awareness of the picture other than the idea that it was being directed by the diversely talented Homi Adajania and that Imtiaz Ali wrote the screenplay. He questioned her decision, questioning why she chose 'Cocktail' when there were many renowned directors who were willing to work with her.

Deepika made the decision to follow her intuition and do the movie despite Ranbir's reservations. Although she respected Ranbir's advice as a friend, she finally made the right decision. Later, when they were promoting their Imtiaz Ali-directed movie 'Tamasha,' in which they both co-starred, Deepika asked Ranbir if his feelings towards 'Cocktail' had changed since it had come out.

In his response, Ranbir Kapoor was open and honest, admitting that while he didn't particularly enjoy the movie, he did enjoy Deepika's performance. Despite the fact that he didn't connect with the film as a whole, he recognised that her performance of Veronica was remarkable and deserving of commendation.
