Reflecting on his adolescent years, Karan recalled attempting to fit in with his peers by presenting a Valentine's Day card to a fellow student who held the position of Headgirl. However, his attempt to participate in the customary display of affection was met with a perceptive response from the girl, which led to a revelation about his genuine intentions. Karan admitted that his gestures of exchanging gifts during Valentine's Day were driven more by a desire to be perceived as "cool" rather than genuine affection.
In his memoir, 'An Unsuitable Boy,' Karan had acknowledged that his first and only crush was his childhood friend Twinkle Khanna, an ex-actor and an author. Although they attended the same boarding school briefly, Karan's stay there was short-lived. Additionally, he had envisioned the character of Tina in the film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' for Twinkle, which she declined.
Karan has also expressed on multiple occasions that if circumstances were different, he would have developed feelings for his friend and collaborator Kareena Kapoor. Their collaboration in the 2001 movie 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' remains a significant part of his journey. Notably, Kareena Kapoor is currently married to actor Saif Ali Khan.
On the professional front, Karan recently commemorated the 25th anniversary of his directorial debut, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,' marking a milestone in his illustrious career.
