Renowned producer Anand Pandit is all set to collaborate with Parag Sanghvi and Eros International to remake Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara (2006) and bankroll the sequel to Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's 2011 film 'Desi Boyz'.

Reflecting on the cult status of the aforementioned films, Pandit said both the movies have been pathbreaking in their respective eras for storytelling, star cast as well as music.

"The films remain unforgettable for the command over their respective genres. They (Omkara and Desi Boyz) have a cult following for various reasons and it seems like the perfect time to revisit them and take their stories forward for this generation of viewers,” he added.

Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara was adapted from William Shakespeare's 'Othello'

Co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Omkara featured an ensemble starcast of Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi and Bipasha Basu in lead roles.

Owing to its dark theme and strong, rustic language, Omkara didn't find takers from family audiences. However, it received widespread critical acclaim for its direction, storyline, dialogues, screenplay, soundtrack and performances by the starcast.

Set in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, Omkara was the second film in Bhardwaj's Shakespeare adaptation trilogy, which began with Maqbool (2003) and ended with Haider (2014).

Desi Boyz featured Akshay Kumar and John Abraham as male strippers

Directed by Rohit Dhawan (son of filmmaker David Dhawan and elder brother of actor Varun Dhawan), Desi Boyz featured Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh in lead roles.

The storyline followed the journey of Jignesh 'Jerry' Patel (Kumar) and Nikhil 'Nick' Mathur (Abraham) who end up working as male strippers in London.

The film is reportedly inspired by the thousands of Indian students who were duped by various universities in the West and had to take up odd jobs to survive.

Upon release, Desi Boyz proved to be an average grosser at the box office.
