Of course, it is no surprise that Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was a huge success. Many people are even aware that the director contacted a number of actors before settling on Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan for the roles that ultimately went to them because no one wanted to take second place to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

You may not be aware, though, that Salman requested a sizable payment from KJo after willingly agreeing to play a supporting role in the film. That information was provided by Karan in an earlier interview, which the WildFilms India YouTube channel has now posted online. Because the actor had to take Kajol to the man she loves, I reasoned that the second male protagonist shouldn't be a star and that it wouldn't be good.

“Consequently, Salman Khan's sister Alvira is a close friend of mine. I was at her house talking to her about the movie when Salman stopped by and inquired about it. To be honest, I didn't think he would. He inquired about the performers present as well as the number of days he would need to dedicate to it. I responded, "Really?" when he said, "I'll do it." When he heard it, he said, "Narrate it to me," and he then demanded money—very, very significant money at the moment. I therefore told my dad. Salman is great, but we don't have the budget,” he said.

The director and producer then detailed how he approached actors like Chandrachur Singh and Saif Ali Khan, but both turned him down.

SAIF ALI KHAN STATED

Saif responded, "I don't want to take a chance; my career is just going off,'" when we went to see him later. I was quite angry that evening when my buddies called and told me to come. Salman was at Chunky Panday's party when he noticed me. Why are you looking so depressed, he approached over and inquired? You went hero shopping, he asked? Then, he invited me to visit him once more and said, "I am making your film, I like you, and I like your father." You pay me what you want, he said. He and Rani both received accolades for their performances, and considering that these were the two most frequently turned down parts in the business, I was overjoyed for them.”

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was well-received both critically and commercially when it was released in 1998.
