Hours after learning of Naik Bhairon Singh Rathore's passing on Monday, Suniel Shetty paid his tributes to the late BSF member. In JP Dutta's film Border, Suniel played the part of Bhairon.
Bhairon, one of the heroes of the India-Pakistan conflict of 1971, passed away at the age of 81 at the AIIMS in Jodhpur. In recognition of his valiant actions during the 1971 conflict at the Longewala station, Bhairon Singh was awarded the Sena Medal in 1972.
The following was the text of a post sent on Monday morning by the BSF's official account: "DG BSF & all ranks condole the passing of Naik (Retd) Bhairon Singh, Sena Medal, the hero of #Longewala battle during 1971 War. BSF salutes his intrepid bravery, courage & dedication toward his duty. Prahari parivar stands by his family in these trying times. #JaiHind."
Suniel Shetty tweeted, "Rest in Power Naik Bhairon Singh Ji. Heartfelt condolences to the family." Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah also mourned the death of the late soldier.
According to a BSF spokesperson, Bhairon Singh Rathore's body was sent to a training facility in Jodhpur. Before the cremation, which will take place in his hamlet Solankiya Tala with full military honors, a wreath-laying ceremony will be performed in Jodhpur.
Featuring a large ensemble cast that includes Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Border is based on the Battle of Longewala in 1971. The movie also stars Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.
With the web series Dharavi Bank by Samit Kakkad, Suniel recently made his digital debut. Speaking in an interview about his experience in show business, Suniel said, "My decisions were poor, and as a result, my audience abandoned me. I'm attempting to reinvent myself right now, and since I'm 61, I'll do roles that fit me. I'm not motivated to make additional movies. However, I am still committed to acting, and I will only appear in high-quality productions.
