When Indian cinema was just rising on the high and getting its own name, an actress like Asha Parekh was among the finest and best Bollywood actresses back in the 70s and 80s Asha Parekh who started her journey as a child artist went on to become one of the most popular actresses. Her film Dil Deke Dekho where she played the female lead made her one of the huge stars in no time. She garnered many fans and bagged six films straight away after that.

While we speak of her magnificent journey in the industry, it is now announced that the veteran star will be conferred with the highest honor of the Indian Cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Anurag Thakur who is the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting announced this news. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor given to artists of cinema in India. It was given to Rajinikanth in 2019. It is dedicated to Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema.

From 1950 to 1973, Asha Parekh was one of the most popular actors in Hindi movies. In 1992, she received the Padma Shri award from the Indian government. She was also India's Central Board of Film Certifications's (Censor Board) first female chair. Few of her most popular films include Maa (1952), Teesri Manzil and Do Badan (1966), Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Caravan (1971), Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978), and many more. Asha started directing the Gujarati television series Jyoti after she gave up acting. Asha produced serials including Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, Kora Kagaz, and Dal Mein Kaala through her production business, Akruti.
