Bhumi Pednekar is one of Bollywood's most in-demand actors right now, thanks to her extraordinary acting abilities and propensity for giving high performances that spark a lot of conversation. She has chosen to play heroines who aren't afraid to say they are equal to a guy through her choice of roles! Even in the movie ‘Govinda Naam Mera,’ which debuts tomorrow, she portrays a self-assured character who lives life to her terms.

‘I've always thought movies could be a potent medium for showcasing fiercely independent, robust, and strong-willed women.

My career in the film serves as a living illustration of this since I have purposefully chosen movies that show modern women, people other women can identify with and relate to,’ says Bhumi.

She continues, ‘I have always been inclined to play women who haven't compromised on their dreams and wishes and stood up against patriarchy in movies like Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Badhaai Do, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Lust Stories, Sonchiriya, Saand Ki Aankh, Bala, Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, and now Govinda Naam Mera.’

Bhumi continues, ‘I adore playing women who shift the way society views gender and fight the established quo. I love portraying women who are on par with guys. This should serve as both my tiny gift to the Indian cinema and as a business card. Through my collection of work, I wish to advocate strongly for equality.’

Bhumi says, ‘I respect Gauri Waghmare, an unstoppable force of nature who can stand up to a man and be loud about what she wants.

This immediately appealed to me about her role in Govinda Naam Mera. I am grateful to Shashank for allowing me the creative license to run wild with such a great persona. Playing her was a blast for me. It's evident in the movie's trailer, and I do not doubt that it will be even more apparent when people watch it on December 16th.’

Bhumi Pednekar’s Upcoming Project

Bhumi has seven back-to-back releases in the next 12 months, including the films Bheed, Afwaah, The Lady Killer, Bhakshak, Mudassar Aziz's next, Govinda Naam Mera, and an additional untitled movie that has been officially announced.
