Varun Dhawan addressed the criticism for this specific sequence in an interview. He questions how sensitive moviegoers may be when viewing a Hollywood production.

Without specifically referencing ‘Oppenheimer’, he implied, “people who felt very triggered after watching the small scene from a recently released film but it's a scene that is very important to our culture and our country but that is okay for you.”
He wonders where the criticism went at the time since you want to get personal with Bollywood movies. He went on to say, “You cannot have a different yardstick to measure everyone and it should be the same. There is no need for judging films this way."
