Ayushmann Khurrana Addressed His Films' Recent Box Office Failures

Ayushmann Khurrana discussed the reasons why his most recent films, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek, and Doctor G, were box office flops

An Action Hero, a new film starring Ayushmann Khurrana, is about to hit theatres. After Anek and Doctor G, this is the actor's third film of 2022. Unfortunately, neither film did well at the box office, and neither did his Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui from 2021. Ayushmann Khurrana has discussed the reasons behind the box office failure of his most recent three films, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek, and Doctor G.

Chandigarh Vaani Kapoor plays a transwoman in the LGBTQ community-focused film Kare Aashiqui. Gross sales for the film were 33.64 crore rupees. The May 2022 release of Anek, directed by Anubhav Sinha, barely made Rs 9.7 crore at the box office. Rakul Preet Singh and Khurrana's most recent film, Doctor G, brought in Rs 31.49 crore.

The 38-year-old actor discussed whether or not his string of underwhelming films has affected him in a recent interview.

I began with films about taboo issues, he claimed. The youngsters have probably also been watching because it has to be a community viewing and have a bigger film. In fact, because our nation is homophobic, my most recent three films—including one about LGBTQ people, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui—really didn't perform well on the box office.

Then there was Anek, a docudrama that was really niche in terms of the tone of the picture, which he continued to discuss along with Doctor G. Doctor G was an A-rated movie, and considering the classification it received, it did alright in theatres. That served as the basis of my training for a while in filmmaking.

"If I prevent taking chances, I'll be conventional," he continued.

I've always made odd decisions because of who I am. I'll continue to take them whether I succeed or fail in the future. The beauty of the films' budgeting is that I simply keep pushing the envelope. Because most of my movies have low to middle budgets, no one loses money, and I can afford to take chances.

Speaking of his most recent film, An Action Hero, it tells the story of a Bollywood hero whose life is turned upside down after he unintentionally murders someone with his car. In the film, it will be shown how someone trying to get retribution alters his life. On December 2, 2022, An Action Hero is scheduled for release in theatres.
