Amol Palekar, a seasoned actor and director, responded angrily to the tax breaks offered by several states to films like 'The Kashmir Files' (2022) and 'The Kerala Story' (2023) on Monday, June 26, 2023. Additionally, he labelled these movies as 'propaganda films.'

Amol Palekar made remarks at the Samajik Salokha Parishad, which was held in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned king and social reformer Shahu Maharaj. He noted that although goons had previously harassed the aam junta, masked crowds are now supported by politicians and the administration. Additionally, he claimed that in recent decades, minorities have been terrorised.

Amol Palekar expressed his indignation about the harassment of individuals who hold opposing views by troll armies and the tax-free distribution of 'propaganda' films in India today, like 'The Kashmir Files' and 'The Kerala Story.' He reflected on Shahu Maharaj, saying that if the social reformers were still alive, those who had been shielded from Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh would have received justice earlier.

Several wrestlers have accused the member of parliament of sexual harassment. Amol added that Shahu Maharaj was opposed to orthodox dogma and that he punished anyone who committed crimes against women.

Amol Palekar has previously caused controversy by stating his mind. He questioned the purported cancellation of two senior artists' retrospectives at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in Mumbai in February 2019. It caused a great deal of hubbub.

A month before, he had noticed that while public figures like politicians and world leaders are not subject to censorship when giving speeches, similar situations in films often encounter opposition. He questioned censorship practises once more in April 2017 and petitioned the Supreme Court for a revision of the Cinematograph Act.
