Amit Sial is enjoying bagging two Best Supporting Actor nominations for Qala and Maharani at mid-day and Radio City Hitlist OTT Awards. He quickly notes that nowadays, movies and films offer strong characters, and the thin line between the lead character and supporting role is getting blurred. He acted in the Maharani S02 and Qala, which helped him fetch two big awards nominations. Here is what he has to say about his film Qala.
He said, “Personally, I have never felt that my work was a supporting act in any of the [projects]. Most roles today are character-driven.” Both characters from the Maharani S02 and Qala have grey shades. They couldn’t be more unequal.
In Netflix’s Qala, Amit Sial plays the role of music composer Sumant Kumar, and he sexually abuses the leading role in exchange for a career break. He makes his role Sumant Kumar under the observation of director Anvita Dutt, which is found to be predatory yet defenceless when his chips are down. He mentioned, “Anvita’s immense faith in me is the reason for the impact that Sumant Kumar makes. Also, when a film is so beautifully crafted, you can be sure that even the smallest detail in the background will leave an impact. Films like Qala come once in a lifetime.”
He also talked about the role of politician Navin Kumar in Maharani. He mentioned that it was not easy, “The most challenging part was to get into the character’s mindset. As a script, Maharani is impeccable. It was all about catching the script’s rhythm.”
