Two Bollywood blockbusters are slated to compete at the box office on the joyous occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Today saw the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, an adaptation of the popular film Forrest Gump (1994) starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Along with it, the dowry-focused film Raksha Bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar, also released at the same time.
In addition to Aamir's wishes for success for both movies, Akshay Kumar also desired success for Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan at the box office. Recently, Kumar said, “I think it is good because it is good for our industry that both films work and work very well. Holidays are coming. There are 4 consecutive holidays in the week and I suppose no significant film is released next week. I wish both films do well because that is what our industry wants and wants forever.”
Khan had previously stated of the clash, “I hope both the films do well. I have seen the trailer of Raksha Bandhan and I really liked it. I was asking do we make films that are relevant. Here is a film that is relevant. It is a film of a common man who does have problems with economic issues.”
Both films have amassed an average amount of advance reservations. According to recent data, Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan are both predicted to generate between Rs 10-15 crore nett on their first day at the box office, respectively.
