The historical epic battle film Prithviraj, based on the life of Indian medieval ruler Prithviraj Chauhan, is set to release on June 3. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role, with Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar playing his love interest Sanyogita in her debut role. The film is set to compete with Adivi Sesh's Major, which is based on the life of 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, and Kamal Haasan's Vikram, which stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil.
Akshay Kumar addressed the clash with two South Indian biggies in a recent media interview, adding that he wants all three films to do well at the box office. "Good! I just want all these films to work. How can I say “stop the release of their films?” Everybody’s film should work. What is important is that films work. When films work, business happens and lots of lives are dependent on this industry. So, all films should work," said the actor.
Adivi Sesh had previously spoken on the latest three-way clash. He said, "Practically, Major is the biggest film in Telugu. Vikram is the biggest film in Tamil and Prithviraj is the biggest film in Hindi. But, while there are big fishes in the sea, we're the goldfish."
Directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana, and Manav Vij in pivotal parts.
