Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas is at the peak of her successful career. She is working in both the Hollywood and Bollywood film industry. But to reach this place has gone through so many struggles through her journey. She has worked in approximately 60 films, and despite being a successful actress, she used to get paid less for her work in the film industry. She opens up about her acting career journey.
She says she used to get paid less than her male co-stars. Priyanka says, "In Bollywood, pay equality never existed for me. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor." She believed she would have to deal with the same large pay gap for her male co-actors in the Bollywood film industry even though her co-female actors asked for equal pay. They all have never got it"
She recalled her days in the Indian film Industry, and it is normal to wait for a male co-actor. She says, "I thought it was absolutely OK to sit for hours and hours on set, while my male co-actor just took his own time and decided whenever he wanted to show up on set is when we would shoot."
She says Bollywood is longstanding with its obsession for fair skin, and she got body shamed for her complexion. Priyanka remembers how she got treated and said, "I was called 'black cat', 'dusky'. I mean, in a nation where we are essentially all brown, what even does the word "dusky" imply? However, it is up to our generation to be able to break those bonds and effect change so that the equity bestowed upon light skin is not passed down to the following generation."
