Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Movie Review Rating: 4/5
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has been one of the most awaited films of 2023 for various reasons. Firstly, it brings the fresh pairing of Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor together on the silver screen for the very first time. Secondly, it is a Luv Ranjan directorial after the smash hit Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety in 2018. The film has been in the news even before it went on floors. But does it live up to the high expectations the audience has built around it? Well, our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film, and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the detailed review here before booking your tickets.
STORY: Mickey (Ranbir Kapoor) is born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has been in multiple relationships over the years and ending relationships comes quite easy to him. Not only he is good at ending his own relationships, but he can also in fact help others in splitting with their partners without any damage to their image. But soon he falls in love with Tinny (Shraddha Kapoor), who also belongs to a rich family. Soon after falling in love, one develops cold feet and plans to break up. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS & LOWS: It won’t be an exaggeration to say that director Luv Ranjan understands the pulse of the audience like no one. His films connect with the youth of the country and with his latest rom-com Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, he brings yet another contemporary film that has some familiar tropes but still looks like a breath of fresh air.
Apart from Ranjan’s deft direction and strong narrative, the major strength of the film lies in its performances. Ranbir Kapoor shines throughout the film. It feels like Ranjan wrote this character keeping only him in mind. The actor wins your heart with his affable charm. Anubhav Singh Bassi is also likeable. He has some brilliant scenes. Talking about Shraddha Kapoor, she is in terrific form. It's good to see her on screen after a long gap of three years. She and Ranbir Kapoor look absolutely delightful together on screen. Dimple Kapadia and Boney Kapoor are good as Ranbir's parents. Kartik Aaryan and Nushrratt Bharucha make you feel nostalgic with their impactful cameos.
The film boasts of great peppy songs that have been filmed beautifully. The audience is going to groove to them for a long time.
Talking about the film's lows, the first half feels a little slow-paced with a lot of time devoted to establishing the characters. The film could have been trimmed by 15 minutes to make the narrative crispier.
FINAL VERDICT: Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a feel good film with a bunch of likeable characters. The lead actors' crackling chemistry makes it a delightful watch. All the romantic comedy elements are assembled effectively to keep the audience entertained. I'm going with 4 stars.
