Mission Majnu Movie Review Rating: 3.5/5
Bollywood has produced several spy thrillers over the years, but only a handful of them managed to make a mark. Actor Sidharth Malhotra, who was most recently seen in Thank God (2022) alongside superstar Ajay Devgn, turns a spy in his new film Mission Majnu, which marks the directorial debut of Shantanu Bagchi. The film tells an untold story of India’s most fearless and daring covert operation that was conducted in the heart of Pakistan. BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film available on Netflix and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the detailed review to know whether it deserves a watch or is passable.
STORY: Inspired by real events, Mission Majnu revolves around a RAW agent Tariq aka Amandeep Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) who is married to Nasreen (Rashmika Mandanna), a blind girl. Already an undercover agent in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi, Singh is tasked with the responsibility of finding out its designs to build an atomic bomb after India’s first successful nuclear test in 1974. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS & LOWS:
If given a tight, well-written script, Malhotra can elevate it further with his charm and performance. The same happens with Mission Majnu as well. After Shershaah, he delivers yet another confident performance that certainly emerges as one of his best. The actor uses his charm well to make his character even more loveable. Malhotra, who debuted on the screen with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012, has come a long way in his career. He is definitely poised for a great inning in Bollywood provided he keeps selecting the right scripts to make things work in his favour.
Talking about Rashmika Mandanna, who made her Bollywood debut with Goodbye (2022), the actress looks gorgeous on the screen. But there is more to her character than just looking beautiful. Her character is layered and the actress does complete justice to her character and shines in every scene she is a part of. There are several prominent character actors in the film, including Kumud Mishra, Sharib Hashmi, and Zakir Hussain, who contribute a lot to making Mission Majnu what it is.
The romantic number “Rabba Janda” is quite hummable and you cannot help noticing Malhotra and Mandanna’s effortless chemistry in it.
Talking about the things which might not seem promising to the audience, the film relies on done-to-death tropes of spy films more often than not.
FINAL VERDICT: Mission Majnu is an entertaining watch that keeps you on the edge of your seat. After Shershaah, Sidharth Malhotra delivers yet another powerful performance. Rashmika Mandanna also plays her part with utmost honesty and looks gorgeous on the screen. I am going with 3.5 stars.
