Jawan Movie Review Rating: 4.5/5
After a dull phase, superstar Shah Rukh Khan returned to theatres with a bang with Yash Raj Films’ Pathaan, which hit the marquee in January this year. The Siddharth Anand directorial turned out to be the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood, comfortably crossing ₹500 crores at the domestic box office. After the mega-success of Pathaan, all eyes were set on Khan’s next release Jawan, which finds its way into cinemas today amid high expectations from the audience and trade pundits. In addition to Khan, the film also features Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover on the cast. BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Do read the detailed review of Jawan on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets.
STORY: Jawan tells the story of a wronged army officer Vikram Rathore and his son Azad, both played by Shah Rukh Khan. Six women hijack a metro train in Mumbai. They are guided by their ‘Captain’ Vikram Rathore, who puts forth a set of demands which need be met for the safe release of the metro train and its passengers. But there is more to what meets the eye. To know more, watch the film in the theatre closest to you.
HIGHS & LOWS: The audience is going to love Shah Rukh Khan in his dual avatar in Jawan. It is perhaps his massiest film ever that will appeal to all the segments of the audience. Right from catchy dialogues to jaw-dropping action sequences, there is everything that will take Khan’s stardom to the next level.
As Azad, he plays a messiah who has vouched to bring justice to those who have been wronged by the system. He is likeable as Vikram Rathore also, who turns against the system for justice. Nayanthara, who makes her Bollywood debut with Jawan, gets a powerful role to play. She is seen as a cop who gets married to Azad, but there is so much more to her character that unfolds slowly. Her pairing with Khan is great.
Sanya Malhotra, Lehar Khan, Sangeeta Bhattacharya and others make for Azad's Army. Vijay Sethupathi stars as the wealthy villain and nails his character. There is Deepika Padukone also in a cameo. She plays Azad's mother and is a part of an emotional backstory that will leave audiences teary eyed. Sanjay Dutt also has an extended cameo in the film.
FINAL VERDICT: Watching superstar Shah Rukh Khan on the silver screen is always fascinating, but what also makes his latest release Jawan a perfect watch is compelling direction by Atlee. He offers a film that is fast, engrossing, and inventive, and consistently hits the sweet spot. There is hardly any dull moment despite the fact that it runs for almost three hours. Having said that, the music of the film could have been better. I am going with 4.5 stars.
