Cirkus Movie Review Rating: 3.5/5

After the huge success of Sooryavanshi (2021), Rohit Shetty returns to entertain audiences with his out-and-out comic-caper Cirkus, featuring a bunch of actors on the star cast, including Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Pooja Hegde. Shetty has to his credit some of the most commercially successful comedy films, including the entire Golmaal franchise. So, when we know that he is the man behind any new comedy film, our expectations soar high automatically. His latest directorial Cirkus is based on William Shakespeare's classic play The Comedy of Errors. There have been multiple films based on the same play, so how different is Shetty’s take on it? Our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the detailed review before booking your tickets.

STORY: Two sets of identical twins found at the doorstep of an orphanage are adopted by two different families in two different cities. A few years later, one set of twins decides to visit the city of Ooty with their love interests where the other set of twins runs a Cirkus company. How they come to know about their past forms the basis of this comedy drama.

HIGHS & LOWS: One of the greatest strengths of the film is the way that it beautifully balances its humorous tone. The film is filled with dollops of genuine humour that ensures your smile stays intact from the first scene to the last one. There are plenty of actors in the film and director Rohit Shetty gives everyone enough room to put their talent on display.

Ranveer Singh, the powerhouse of energy, is seen in a dual role for the first time in his career and he plays both his characters with panache, making sure the one looks starkly different from the other. He does a fantastic job of playing an electric man, who can touch live wires and nothing will happen to him. Varun Sharma plays his both characters with a lot of conviction. Despite the presence of some big stars, he manages to arrest your attention with his honestly funny act.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde add glamour to the film. Apart from looking gorgeous in songs and a few scenes, there is nothing else for them to do. Their characters seem to be written in haste, and that is not surprising because most of Shetty’s films have weak women characters. There are a bunch of actors in the supporting cast and they uplift the film with their perfect comic timing, especially Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, and Ashwini Kalsekar. Deepika Padukone’s cameo in the song ‘Current Laga Re’ is another highlight of the film that will make you groove in your seats. I think this is a film that you will be glad you gave a chance.

The film is set in the lush green hills of Ooty and is based in the late 60s or early 70s era. It beautifully pays a tribute to the cinema of that time, something that the older audience is definitely going to love a lot.

FINAL VERDICT: Rohit Shetty has a great hold on comedies and he proves his mettle yet again with his latest directorial Cirkus. The film is packed with fantastic performances from the cast, making it worth a few rounds with your family and friends this festive season. Though the film does not stray too far from the conventional, it successfully delivers the right amount of humour to entertain even the most sceptical of the audience. We are going to 3.5 stars.
