Adipurush Movie Review Rating: 4/5
After facing multiple delays and controversies, T-Series Films’ much-anticipated mythological drama Adipurush hits cinemas today. The film, directed by Om Raut of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and boasts an ensemble cast, including Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Saif Ali Khan. BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Read our detailed review only on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets.
STORY: Raghava (Prabhas), Janaki (Kriti Sanon), and Laxman (Sunny Singh) are in the middle of 14 years of exile in a forest when Laxman, out of rage, chops off Surpanakha’s nose. When she narrates her suffering to her brother Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan), he kidnaps Sita and takes her to Lanka. Raghava, with the help of Bajrang (Devdatta Nage) and Vanar Sena, declares war on Lankesh in order to free Janaki from the clutches of the powerful demon. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS & LOWS: Prabhas, who cemented his position as a pan-India star after the mega success of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), shines in the role of Raghava. His towering personality and restrained demeanour suit the character really well. Since director Om Raut presents him as a warrior king, Prabhas turns out to be the perfect choice for the character. Kriti Sanon in the role of Janaki looks ethereally elegant and beautiful. She gets some brilliant dialogues and pulls off her character with fineness. The only issue with her role is that it is very limited. The makers focus more on the war between Raghava and Lankesh.
Talking about Saif Ali Khan, he is just perfect as Lankesh. Khan has never disappointed when he gets into the skin of a villainous character and he proves his mettle in such a character yet again. Though his character looks way more modern than the audience is accustomed to seeing Ravana, the actor gives his all to ensure that he still looks believable. Sunny Singh as Laxman is decent. Devdatta Nage as Bajrang is good. His personality makes him the perfect fit for the role of Hanuman. Other actors in the supporting cast also do fine jobs.
The music by Ajay-Atul is one of the major highlights of the film. The song “Jai Shri Ram” gives you goosebumps every time it appears in the background. Talking about the VFX and CGI of the film, it looks slapdash in most places. The makers could have worked a little more on the same to make Adipurush an unforgettable experience. Having said that, the film still manages to give audiences an incredible time in cinemas.
FINAL VERDICT: Adipurush is a must-watch film, even if you have seen the previous versions of Ramayana multiple times on TV or the silver screen, including Ramanand Sagar’s iconic show Ramayan. The film is powered by breathtaking visuals, a great background score, and brilliant performances from the cast, especially Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan. Go watch the film in cinemas with your friends and family. I am going with 4 stars.
