RRR Movie Review Rating: 4/5

After the riotous success of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), the whole world was waiting to see what magic filmmaker SS Rajamouli would create in his next directorial venture. When he announced RRR with NT Rama Rao Jr and Ram Charan as his next film, fans were overjoyed for they knew yet another magnum-opus was in the making for them to enjoy on the silver screen. Later, the casting of Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in extended cameos took fans’ excitement to another level.

After facing an inordinate delay in production and numerous changes in its release date, RRR is finally in cinemas now. Here is what our reviewer has to say about one of the biggest motion pictures of 2022.

STORY: Set in 1920, RRR revolves around the undocumented period in the lives of Komaram Bheem (NT Rama Rao Jr) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), two revolutionaries with their own past who choose to go into oblivion before joining hands to retaliate against the British and fight for the independence of India. What all the two go through in their zealous pursuit of freedom forms the crux of the story.

HIGHS: The major highlight of RRR is its casting. NTR Jr and Ram Charan give their heart and soul to the characters that they essay on celluloid. They are terrific in every single frame. NTR Jr as Komaram Bheem is exceptional and delivers one of his career’s best performances. He gets under the skin of the character in no time. His personality and aura suit the well-written character.

Charan, who is undoubtedly one of the best actors Tollywood has ever produced, outshines his previous performances as Alluri Sitarama Raju in this SS Rajamouli directorial. He emotes through his eyes and the whole of his body so well that one cannot imagine any other actor in the role that he plays.

Alia Bhatt in her extended cameo is excellent. Despite working in a new set-up, she looks exceptionally confident and leaves her impression as Sita. You just cannot take your eyes off her whenever she appears on the screen. Having said that, some more screen time could have done more justice to her presence in the film. Ajay Devgn, on the other hand, is brilliant. The star uses his charisma well and looks terrific in his well fleshed out cameo appearance. Actors such as Shriya Saran, Olivia Morris, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson do complete justice to their characters.

Director SS Rajamouli takes the best out of his actors and successfully creates a piece of cinema that exceeds all the expectations that people had from him after the success of his previous films. Emotions have always been the mainstay of Rajamouli’s cinema and RRR is no exception. The film is rich with emotions, patriotism, stunning visuals, and outstanding camera work.

LOWS: Well, in an SS Rajamouli directorial, there is hardly any scope for issues that stick out like a sore thumb. Having said that, some people may find RRR extremely long. A large segment of the audience is no longer accustomed to watching a 3-hour-long film. But the best part about RRR is that Rajamouli has created such an immersive world that you forget about the length once you start watching the film. By the time credits roll, you feel so satisfied with what you saw on the screen that you hardly care about how much time you spent.

FINAL VERDICT: If you are planning to watch a spectacularly mounted period film which is powered by stellar performances, stunning visuals, deft direction and, above all, a great storyline that fills your heart with pride, RRR is the film for you. Do not miss it in cinemas! I am going with 4.5 stars.
