OMG 2 Movie Review Rating: 4/5

This Friday sees the release of two of the most awaited films of 2023 – Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer OMG 2 and Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2. Both films are sequels to their blockbuster predecessors. While Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 takes the story of Gadar forward, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 tells a completely new story with new characters. Our BollywoodMDB reviews has seen the film and here is what he has to say about. Read the detailed review of OMG 2 only on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets.

STORY: Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi) is a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva whose world revolves around his work and his family. On an unfortunate day his teenage son Vivek (Aarush Sharma) gets expelled from school on grounds of obscenity. When he comes to know about his son’s vulgar act at school premises, Kanti decides to leave his town with his family and that's when enters the messenger of God (Akshay Kumar) to guide him. When his son tries to commit suicide and goes through unfathomable mental trauma, Kanti decides to sue the school for the mental harassment caused to his son and demands that his son's unjustified rustication be revoked. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

HIGHS & LOWS: A film which features the extremely talented Pankaj Tripathi in a central role can hardly disappoint the audience. Tripathi is the backbone of this superbly written and deftly directed courtroom drama. The actor delivers a class act as Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a middle-class father who is torn between shame and anger. This is undoubtedly one of his best performances to date and can fetch him multiple awards at awards functions.

Akshay Kumar has a bigger role in the sequel than what we saw him in the original film, and he shines in his avatar of the messages of God. His look in the film is also impressive. However, it would have been really great to see him in more scenes with Kanti. Talking about Yami Gautam, the actress does complete justice to her role as a lawyer. However, her character is not written as flawlessly as that of Kanti. She still manages to leave her mark and is fantastic in scenes with Pankaj Tripathi.

The messaging of the film is on point. It never gets preachy and boring. Full marks to director Amit Rai for touching upon the subject of sex education so sensitively. The film has been edited well. Overall, OMG 2 is a must watch.

FINAL VERDICT: OMG 2 is a complete entertainer powered by outstanding performances from Pankaj Tripathi. Though it deals with the issue of sex education, it is a well-made film that one can watch with the entire family as it touches upon various issues faced by the younger generation. The writing, direction, and editing are praiseworthy. Director Amit Rai’s work demands everyone’s attention. I am going with 4 stars.
