Bholaa Movie Review Rating: 3.5/5

Almost a year after his last directorial Runway 34, Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn returns to the director’s chair with his latest release Bholaa, which also stars him in the title role. Mounted on a lavish scale, the film is the official remake of the 2019 Tamil-language action thriller film Kaithi, which starred Karthi in the lead role and was a critical and commercial success. Joining Devgn on the cast in the remake is his frequent collaborator Tabu, who once again plays a cop. Our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the detailed review of Bholaa here before booking your tickets.

STORY: Bholaa (Ajay Devgn), who was serving life imprisonment in a UP jail, is released early on the basis of his good behaviour. All he wants to do now is to meet his 10-year-old daughter he has never seen before. However, before he could reach the orphanage where his daughter has been staying all these years, Bholaa is roped in by IPS Diana Joseph (Tabu) to carry out a difficult task. Both try to save the lives of 40 police officers and, at the same time, stop a high-profile gang of gangsters from reaching the spot where Diana has hidden confiscated drugs of 1000 crore. Will the two succeed in their mission? Will Bholaa ever meet his daughter? To know this and much more, watch the film in cinema closest to you.

HIGHS & LOWS: Bholaa is an out-and-out star vehicle led by Ajay Devgn. Apart from playing the lead character, the National Film Award-winning actor also wields the megaphone and succeeds wonderfully in both departments. Every scene in the film adds new layers to the lead character. Devgn does not try to go away from the original Tamil film story-wise, but he makes the film his own by adding jaw-dropping action sequences, heightened emotions, and excellent background score.

Talking about Tabu, she plays her character with utmost honesty. Though she played a cop before in the Drishyam franchise with Devgn, Diana does not remind you of Mira Deshmukh at all. Deepak Dobriyal delivers a class act. He gets into the skin of his character deep. The actor has got some brilliant scenes and he makes the most of them. Gajraj Rao and Vineet Kumar’s characters disappoint a bit as they don’t have much depth.

FINAL VERDICT: If you are an Ajay Devgn fan, Bholaa will entertain you to bits. The film boasts of great performances, whistle-worthy moments, and high-octane action sequences. There is ample entertainment even for those who have seen the original film. I am going with 3.5 stars.
